IT Division,
National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE),
Gwal Pahari, Gurugram, Haryana
Frequency of monitoring
The NISE website undergoes regular monitoring through manual methods as well as through web analyzer tools. This is password protected and is accessed by the website Administrator. The monitored data is analyzed on a monthly basis by the Website Team of the IT Division, NISE and reports are compiled. The compiled report will be made accessible to Quality Managers by the IT Division monthly and as and when required.
Monitored Parameters
Although reports can be generated for various aspects of the NISE website, the Quality Manager is responsible for regularly analyzing and preparing key website analytics reports to assess visitor behaviour, website usage, and overall performance. These reports include the Visitor Dashboard, which provides an overview of visitor traffic and usage patterns; the Usage Pattern Report, which indicates the geographic distribution of visitors by city and country; and the Hits by Hour Report, which identifies the most and least active hours based on the number of visits or hits recorded during the reporting period.
The Referring Sites Report identifies the domains and IP addresses from which visitors are directed to the NISE website, while the Search Phrases Report provides information on the search terms that generate the highest number of visits and the search engines through which visitors reach the website. The Top Pages Report identifies the most frequently visited pages and their respective visit counts. The Entry Pages Report records the first page accessed during each website visit, which may be any page on the website depending on how the visitor reaches the site and is not necessarily the homepage. In addition, the Browsers Report identifies the web browsers most commonly used by visitors, while the Platforms Report provides information on the operating systems used to access the NISE website.
In addition to visitor and usage analytics, the NISE website is regularly monitored for content and technical quality issues. Spelling and content-related errors are reviewed on a weekly basis, while broken links are monitored daily and corrective action is taken wherever required to maintain the accuracy, usability, and reliability of the website.
Utility of Monitored Parameters
The website analytics reports are used to support continuous improvement and optimization of the NISE website. Visitor and usage pattern reports provide insights into the demographic and behavioural characteristics of users, which help in planning and implementing appropriate personalization and user-centric features. Search phrase reports identify the keywords and search terms commonly used by visitors to find the website, enabling relevant pages to be optimized for improved search engine visibility.
The Top Pages and Entry Pages reports help identify the most frequently accessed pages and the pages through which visitors initially access the website. These pages are prioritized for content and search engine optimization based on the findings of the search phrase analysis. Browser and platform reports are used to ensure that the website is compatible and performs effectively across the browsers and operating systems most commonly used by visitors.
The Hits by Hour report helps identify periods of peak website traffic so that server resources and performance can be monitored and optimized accordingly. The Referring Sites report identifies external websites that generate significant visitor traffic and may be used to support appropriate link-building and information-sharing initiatives. Content quality is also monitored continuously, with identified spelling errors corrected promptly and broken links reviewed and rectified at the earliest possible opportunity.
