Before joining as DG, NISE on deputation Dr. Mohammad Rihan worked as a Professor of Electrical Engineering at AMU for about 22 years with significant contributions in the areas of smart grid and Solar Energy. He has led the integration of 6.5MWp solar PV plants in the campus distribution grid; one of the the largest such installation in any academic institution in the country. He was the Founder Director and Coordinator of the centre for Grid Integrated Green and Renewable Energy in the campus addressing the research challenges presented by high penetration of renewable energy in the grid. He has conceptualized and started a new M.Tech program on Green Energy and Sustainable Development. The program is in line with the national requirements for green energy transition and the National Education Policy. He has successfully guided Ph.D. scholars in the areas of solar energy and smart grid. Two of his PhD scholars have been awarded the prestigious and highly competitive Prime Ministers’ Research Fellowship (PMRF). He has also completed sponsored research projects of UPCST, MNRE and UGC. He has provided technical consultancy to various projects of smart city, Agra, Aligarh and Bareilly and to the UP-Power Transmission Corporation Limited and has delivered keynote and invited talks on climate change, solar energy and smart grid at numerous organizations, industry, and institutes. Dr. Rihan has authored a textbook on ‘Green Energy and Sustainable Development’ to be published by Cambridge University Press (UK). He has authored a book on Green Energy Transition in India-Including the success story of AMU. He is a recipient of Gold Medal for securing first position in B.Tech. (Electrical Engineering). He is an elected Fellow of the IET(UK), IE(India), and IETE. He is Senior Member of IEEE and has served as vice chair of executive committee of IEEE UP Section for 2021-2023. At present he is chair-elect of IEEE UP section and elected vice chair of executive committee of Delhi local network of IET(UK).

Dr. Jai Prakash is the Deputy Director General (Technical) at NISE and heading Solar Photovoltaic activities in the institute. He received the B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, in 2003, the M.Tech. degree in Energy Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai, India, in 2006, and the PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from National University of Singapore, in 2015. Dr. Jai Prakash has more than 14 years of experience in Solar Photovoltaic R&D (c-Si Solar cells and modules) across various international research labs and PV industry. Before joining NISE, he was Head of Silicon PV Module Technology group at Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS), National University of Singapore where he served for more than 10 years in various positions. He has published more than 30 peer reviewed research papers in high impact journals and conferences, co-authored one book chapter, and filed/granted few patents. His research work focuses on new and advance PV module concepts, characterization & loss analysis for c-Si cell and modules, reliability study of c-Si PV modules, Performance study of PV power plants and asset management, PV Module for urban applications (e.g., Building-Integrated PV), smart module concepts, PV recycling and circular economy. One of his key focus is on bifacial device characterization and performance evaluation in the real-world conditions.

Dr. Prashant Misra is serving as Director (Technical) at the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gurugram, Haryana since 2023. He received his Bachelor’s in Science from Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra and Master’s degree in Physics from IIT Mumbai. Dr. Misra obtained his Ph.D. in Engg. from IISc Bengaluru, where his dissertation work involved developing empirical models for optimization of electrical and thermal contact resistance in metallic contacts. After his Ph.D. and a brief stint as postdoctoral researcher, he joined Moser Baer India Ltd. in 2011 and worked on development of lab-scale CIGS thin film solar cells. In 2014 Dr. Misra joined TDK-Epcos India Pvt. Ltd. where he worked with global cross-functional teams and looked after company’s strategic R&D projects related to development of film capacitors. Enticed by his interest in the field of materials and photovoltaics, he joined International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad as Project Scientist in 2016, where he engaged in development of innovative materials/coatings, with economical and scalable processes for solar PV technologies at cell and module level. Dr. Misra has authored more than 15 research articles in reputed peer reviewed journals. His research interests include thin film and tandem solar cells, material and thin film characterization techniques, large area thin film processes, TCO materials, etc.

Dr. Siva Reddy V is the Director (Technical) at NISE. He received a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University; Hyderabad affiliated Narasaraopeta Engineering College, Narasaraopet, in 2007, the M.Tech degree in Energy Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirappalli, Tamilnadu, India, in 2009, and the Ph.D degree in Energy Studies from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India in 2012. He is BEE Certified Energy Auditor since 2016. Dr. V Siva Reddy has more than 13 years of experience in solar thermal R&D. He was a Principal Scientist and I/C Head Solar Energy Division, at Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute (SPRERI), Gujarat, India: 2012-2015. During this tenure, he executed applied research-based solar thermal projects like solar-hybrid refrigeration technology for on-farm safe transient storage of horticultural produce, efficiency enhancement of Scheffler dish solar concentrating technology, and photovoltaic module integrated solar forced convection drying system for non-electrified region funded by NASF- ICAR, SERI-DST, and AICRP-RES, ICAR, Govt. of India. He worked as a Principal Investigator for MNRE Authorized Regional Test Centre-Cum-Technical Back-Up Unit for Solar Thermal Devices at SPRERI, Vallabh Vidya Nagar, Gujarat: 2012-2015. He was Professor and Energy auditor at Rajeev Gandhi Memorial College of Engineering and Technology(Autonomous), Andhra Pradesh from 2015-2022. During this tenure implemented an applied research-based R&D project development and performance evaluation of high efficient solar hot fluid generator-based dryer for agro-industrial application from SERB-DST and executed Energy Audits. Delivered several motivational lectures to the student community on the Value Education and Importance of Internships. He has also received the prestigious Hari Om Ashram Prerit young scientist award for outstanding research in the field of renewable energy during the period 2009-2012 from Hari Om Ashram, Gujarat, and the Shrimati Vijay Usha Sodha Research Award for best research publications in the field of energy for the year 2012-2013 from IIT Delhi. He has published more than 35 peer-reviewed Research Papers in high-impact journals & conferences and co-authored one reference book. His research interest includes Exergy Analysis, Solar Power Generation, Solar Drying, Solar Cooling, and Energy Auditing.

Dr. Anish Malan is a distinguished renewable energy professional, currently serving as the Deputy Director at the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE). He leads cutting-edge research, consultancy, and policy-driven projects aimed at accelerating the adoption of solar technologies in India and beyond. With years of experience in scientific research and project management, Dr. Malan has contributed significantly to advancing sustainable energy solutions. Dr. Malan holds a Ph.D. in Energy Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi, with expertise spanning solar systems, computational fluid dynamics, energy and economic modeling, and renewable energy analytics. Mr. Birinchi Bora has done M.Sc in Physics (2008) from Gauhati University and M.Tech in Energy Technology (2011) from Tezpur University, Assam. He has more than nine years of experience in solar photovoltaics in performance, reliability and characterization. He was also selected for Visiting Scholars Program co-organized by Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the United States (SERIIUS) and the McDonnell Academy Global Energy and Environmental Partnership (MAGEEP). Currently, he is working as Deputy Director (Technical) at the National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram. He has published more than 80 research articles, including more than 25 in the international journal and 46 articles in National and International conference, three book chapters and also technical reports. Mrinal Dutta received his Ph.D. from the Department of Solid State Physics, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 2011. He was a post-doctoral fellow in the department of MANA, National Institute for Materials Science situated in Tsukuba, Japan from 2011 to 2014 and also in the National Solar Energy Center of Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Sede Boker Campus, Israel from 2016 to 2017. He was awarded the prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship in 2017 and worked in the Advanced Materials Division of CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi from November 2017 to August 2020 as a Ramanujan Fellow. He also worked as an Assistant professor at the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), India during this period. His expertise is in several fields of nanotechnology, especially energy harvesting, energy storage, optoelectronics and wastewater treatment and gained experience in working with several deposition reactors by physical and chemical processes. So far, he has contributed 46 regular research papers to reputed international and national journals with 6 conference papers and 3 book chapters. 01 US and 01 Japanese patent published and another US patent has already filled based on his works. At present he is involved in the development of novel nanostructures, Si based solar cell architectures, that can harvest solar energy more efficiently at more reduced production cost compare to their planar counterparts available commercially. He has sufficient experience in fabricating perovskite and organic solar cells as well as Li ion based energy storage devices that have much prospective future in view of solar energy harvesting and storage.
His expertise is in several fields of nanotechnology, especially energy harvesting, energy storage, optoelectronics, and water treatment. These works have been performed by the development of Si and perovskites solar cells, wide band-gap semiconducting nanomaterials using cold wall thermal CVD, magnetron sputtering, plasma laser deposition, electro-spinning, vacuum evaporation techniques and different kind of chemical routes. Through these works, He has got experience and expertise in different kind of semiconductors like Si (nanowire and quantum dot solar cell), perovskites, ZnO, TiO2, CNT, Graphene etc.

Shri Kishore K. Menon is currently the Deputy Director (Tech.) in Green Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Division of NISE. He is also involved in the Solar Thermal Division of NISE and is the Quality Manager for NISE Testing Laboratories. He has a Mechanical Engineering degree from MES College of Engineering, Kerala and Masters in Energy Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He brings with him an extremely rich experience spanning over a decade. Prior to joining NISE, he was working at ONGC Energy Centre, Delhi under its Solar Thermal R&D Division.

Currently associated with Solar Resource Calibration Lab and technical consultancy division of NISE as Deputy Director (Technical). Received Ph.D. degree from VIT University, Vellore, in the field of Solar Photovoltaic system design and analysis. Did M.Tech thesis in Energy Engineering from National Institute of Technology Trichy and engineering in Electrical and Electronics from University of Calicut. Served in MNRE and solar industry before joining NISE. His research interests include Solar radiation and application aspects of Solar Photovoltaics for power plants. Dr. Nikhil has published 9 international journal papers, and also written a book chapter on solar resources. He has also published technical manuals on solar quality installations for grid engineers. Dr. Umakanta Sahoo is the Deputy Director (Technical) at NISE. He received a B.Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Siksha 'O' Anusandhan Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, in 2011, and the PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi Technological University, in 2017. Dr. Umakanta Sahoo has more than 12 years of experience in solar thermal and biomass R&D. Before joining NISE, he worked at the Solar Energy Center (now known as NISE) and NISE, where he served for more than 10 years in various positions. He has extensive scientific experience in solar thermal, hybrid power generation, cooling and heating, thermal energy storage, desalination and distillation (clean water solutions), polygeneration concepts in the energy sector for combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP), preparation of concept notes, and white papers in the solar energy sector. During his tenure, he also coordinated various training programs in solar energy. He was a member of the inspection review committee for various R&D projects implemented by GoI. He has published more than 10 peer-reviewed research papers in high-impact journals, seven book chapters, three edited reference books, and authored one reference book. He is the subject editor of renewable energy in Wiley & Scrivener Publishing. His research interests include clean energy transitions, energy storage, solar power generation, and solar cooling and heating.

Dr. Vikrant Sharma is presently working as Deputy Director (Technical) and Head Skill Development Division at NISE. He received Master’s Degree in Physics and M.Tech in Instrumentation from Panjab University Chandigarh in 2004 and 2008 respectively. He received PhD degree from Centre for Energy & Environmental Engineering (CEEE), National Institute of Technology Hamirpur in 2015. His area of research interest involves the performance evaluation and degradation of different technology PV modules under actual field conditions for their long term reliability. He has more than 10 years of research experience and published more than 10 research articles in journals with high impact factor. He is also interested to work in the area of Energy Storage and trying to initiate Energy Storage Research Activities at NISE. As Head Skill Development Division, he is looking after various skilling activities/ assignments of NISE such as: Internal Trainings, International Trainings (ITEC) and Ministry’s flagship program “Suryamitra”. He is also looking after the coordination with the International Solar Alliance (ISA). He is also associated with the consultancy division of NISE and working on consultancy projects for the ISA member countries.
